What You Should Know

  • ModMed, a massive provider of specialty-specific EHRs, has signed a new multi-year agreement with Amazon Web Services (AWS).
  • AWS has been ModMed’s primary cloud provider since its inception, but this expanded agreement specifically designates AWS as the engine for ModMed’s “AI-Powered Practice” initiative.

The Clinical Vision

The goal of the expanded partnership is to embed AI—such as the generative AI tool ModMed Scribe 2.0—into every corner of a specialty medical practice, including clinical documentation, billing, front-office operations, and patient engagement.

When a dermatologist or an ophthalmologist uses an ambient listening tool like ModMed Scribe 2.0, that audio must be instantly processed, securely analyzed, mapped to the correct medical codes, and inserted into the EHR without a second of latency. Multiply that action across nearly 50,000 providers.

Supported by AWS, ModMed’s architecture is now processing over 3 petabytes of data each month. This translates to over 107 million hours of cluster processing monthly, handling hundreds of millions of clinical notes, patient messages, and practice performance metrics.

“In healthcare, providers need technology they can trust to deliver continuous patient care,” said Venk “VJ” Jayaraman, Chief Technology Officer at ModMed. “To build the AI-Powered Practice, we needed a cloud infrastructure partner that exceeded our requirements for massive scale and technical leadership. AWS met and exceeded every one of those needs.”
