Hopper OS Acquires Healthcare Informatics Company Efferent to Expand Cloud PACS and Interoperability

What You Should Know

  • The Acquisition: Hopper OS, an intelligent healthcare operating system provider, has acquired Efferent, a healthcare informatics company specializing in cloud-based PACS and advanced interoperability.
  • The Missing Puzzle Piece: Prior to this deal, Hopper OS offered EMR, cloud infrastructure, patient management tools, AI, and analytics. By acquiring Efferent, they are bringing vital enterprise imaging capabilities natively into their operating system.
  • The Acquired Tech: Efferent brings two flagship technologies to the table: SmartLink™, an interoperability engine that automatically organizes diverse clinical data streams, and eVue, an enterprise imaging platform that allows clinicians to securely view diagnostic images from anywhere.
  • The M&A Momentum: This is part of an aggressive expansion strategy. Hopper OS recently acquired Amsterdam-based Caro Health to integrate conversational AI and automated patient engagement into its platform.
  • The Strategic Goal: Hopper OS is attempting to become the single, unified technology provider for physician practices, Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs), and health systems, replacing the traditional “Frankenstein” tech stack of disconnected software vendors.

Why Hopper OS Acquired Efferent to Build a True ‘Healthcare OS’

Hospital CIOs and practice managers today are officially experiencing point-solution fatigue. They no longer want to buy, integrate, and maintain 15 different software licenses from 15 different vendors. The market is aggressively consolidating toward comprehensive “platforms.”

Today, Hopper OS announced a strategic acquisition that aims to bulldoze that fragmented landscape entirely. The company has acquired Efferent, a heavy-hitting healthcare informatics firm known for its cloud-based PACS and interoperability engines.

Efferent solves this with two core products: SmartLink™, an engine that forces disparate healthcare systems to communicate, and eVue, an enterprise platform that allows clinicians to view high-quality diagnostic images from anywhere in the cloud.

The acquisition will natively integrate Efferent with Hopper OS platform to offer a single operating system that handles the EMR, cloud infrastructure, agentic AI, analytics, IT services, and enterprise imaging.

“At Hopper OS, we have built the first healthcare operating system globally,” said Chris Martinez, CEO of Hopper OS. “The acquisition of Efferent is a significant step towards achieving our vision of unifying healthcare technology and IT services.”
