Hippocratic AI Launches Safety-First Voice AI for Patients and Nurses

What You Should Know

  • The Launch: Hippocratic AI has announced two new Voice AI products: AI Front Door, a patient-facing agent, and Nurse Co-Pilot, an inpatient assistant specifically built for bedside nurses.
  • Redefining the Front Door: Traditional “digital front doors” often result in frustrating phone trees and dropped context. AI Front Door acts as a single, omni-topic agent that can handle scheduling, lab results, billing, and care follow-ups in one continuous, relationship-based conversation across multiple channels.
  • The Nursing Focus: While most healthcare AI has historically focused on physician documentation, Nurse Co-Pilot targets the largest segment of the clinical workforce. Co-developed with Cincinnati Children’s, OhioHealth, and Cleveland Clinic, the tool automates repetitive inpatient tasks like admission education, discharge prep, and medication adherence.

AI Front Door: A Continuous Patient Relationship

The AI Front Door is designed to replace fragmented call centers and “digital front doors” with a single, omnitopic AI health agent. Unlike traditional systems that rely on phone trees and transfers, this agent maintains a longitudinal relationship with the patient.

  • Omnitopic Conversations: Patients can resolve multiple needs—such as scheduling, lab results, billing, and care instructions—in a single, continuous conversation without restarts.
  • Relationship-Based: The AI remembers patient history and preferences, moving the experience from transactional to personal.
  • Logistical Coordination: The agent goes beyond answering questions to coordinate referrals, arrange transportation, and manage other logistics.
  • Seamless Omnichannel: Conversations can start on a phone call and continue via text or app without losing context.

Nurse Co-Pilot: Returning Hours to Inpatient Care

Co-developed with leaders at Cleveland Clinic, OhioHealth, and Cincinnati Children’s, Nurse Co-Pilot is the first AI voice assistant specifically engineered for bedside nurses. It aims to automate time-consuming education tasks, potentially returning one to four hours per shift to each nurse for direct, hands-on care.

The platform launches with four automated inpatient workflows:

  • Admission Education: Orienting new patients to the hospital stay.
  • Patient Education: Providing consistent disease management and discharge preparation.
  • Caregiver Engagement: Preparing families for post-discharge routines and medication management to prevent readmissions.
  • Medication Adherence: Ensuring patients are fully informed about their prescriptions before leaving the hospital.

Operational Workflow

A nurse triggers the AI directly from the EHR, and the agent calls the patient’s phone—requiring no app download. A structured summary and transcript are automatically written back to the EHR for the nurse to review, ensuring full clinical oversight remains with the human professional.
