Verily Me: A Safe, Private New Space to Check Your Symptoms

What You Should Know

  • The Launch: Verily has officially moved its consumer health app, Verily Me, out of beta and into general availability on the Apple App Store and Google Play.
  • The AI Brain: The platform is anchored by Violet, an AI companion designed to provide 24/7 assistance to help users interpret their health data and navigate self-care.
  • The “Structured Intake” Differentiator: Unlike general-purpose large language models (LLMs) that passively accept whatever incomplete information a user types in, Violet uses a proprietary architecture to conduct a guided, multi-turn conversation. It actively investigates symptoms while cross-referencing the user’s longitudinal medical history.
  • The Feature Set: Alongside symptom assessment, the app now features Enhanced Meal Logging (snapping a photo for instant macronutrient estimates) and a Care Recommendation Refresh (allowing users to request a free, provider-led review of their records for updated preventive screening).
  • The Leadership Narrative: Dr. Vindell Washington, Chief Clinical Officer at Verily, will be showcasing these context-aware AI features at an upcoming SXSW 2026 panel on the radical shift in consumer health understanding.

Symptom Assessment with Context feature

When a user initiates the Symptom Assessment with Context feature (currently in beta), Violet does not simply generate an answer based on the initial prompt. Instead, it initiates a structured intake process. Designed to operate with the judgment of an experienced care team, the AI asks targeted, multi-turn follow-up questions to uncover medically relevant details.

Crucially, it does this while actively analyzing the user’s available health records. Violet isn’t just evaluating a “sore throat”—it is evaluating a sore throat in a patient with a documented history of strep and a known penicillin allergy. Before delivering self-care recommendations or triage advice, the system runs through proprietary safety checks to ensure the guidance is rooted in clinical expertise rather than algorithmic guesswork.

Care Recommendation Refresh & Enhanced Meal Logging Features

The Verily Me app includes a Care Recommendation Refresh feature, which allows users to periodically request a free, provider-led review of their latest available health records. This ensures that preventative screening recommendations are continually updated by licensed human professionals. Additionally, the app features an Enhanced Meal Logging tool that utilizes computer vision to deliver detailed macronutrient estimates from a simple smartphone photo.

“Millions of consumers are turning to AI for medical questions, but generalist tools often lack the critical context needed to provide accurate advice,” said Vindell Washington, MD, MS, Chief Clinical Officer at Verily. “Verily Me changes that. Our tailored approach is designed to gather the relevant details and explain why a suggestion is being made, ensuring all outputs are built on a foundation informed by clinical expertise.”
